Boarding My Flusher
Flushers are a different kind of working dog — biddable, high-octane, and built for close-range action. Whether it’s a Boykin, a Cocker, or a Springer, these dogs need more than just a place to sleep when you’re away. They need structure, purpose, and engagement. That’s exactly what they get at The Gundog Club.
Are flushing breeds a good fit for boarding?
Yes — but not everywhere. Flushing dogs tend to be high-drive and high-touch. They thrive in environments where they get regular interaction, clear communication, and a job to do. Left in a loud, chaotic kennel, even a sweet-natured Boykin Spaniel can become stressed or withdrawn. Our dog boarding program is tailored for gundogs like this — working breeds that need thoughtful management and daily engagement.

What makes dog boarding different for a flusher?
Flushers are typically more people-oriented than other gundogs. They do best in environments where they’re not just physically cared for, but mentally and emotionally engaged. Look for:
- Handlers experienced with flushing breeds like Cocker Spaniels and Springer Spaniels
- Clear routines that include regular human contact and purpose-driven activity
- Environments where drive is understood, not suppressed
- Calm, structured handling that respects their need to work and connect
Will my dog get worked during boarding?
Absolutely. Our members use dog boarding as an opportunity for continued progress, not pause. So if you have a hard charging field champion-bred Cocker, we sure aren't cuddling up with a book on tape and a treat! Every boarded dog at The Gundog Club benefits from structure and routine, and we don’t let a flusher’s energy go stale. Whether it’s a young Boykin in for her first weekend away, or a seasoned Springer in for a longer stay at our kennel, we make sure every dog gets what they need.

Do flushers do well with other dogs?
Often yes, but as always — it depends on the dog and the setting. Most flushing dogs tend to be quite social, but they can also be more sensitive and get overstimulated. We evaluate each dog individually and manage interactions with care. We do not allow free-for-all group play, and we prioritize safety and soundness over socialization for its own sake.
What do I need to bring when boarding my flusher?
Food is provided by the club as part of our gundog boarding membership, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you'd prefer not to switch. Any supplements and/or medication you regularly feed can be sent along, and we’ll follow your instructions exactly. Please do not send crates, bedding, or toys — we provide everything needed there!
Why choose The Gundog Club for your flusher?
Because everything we do is designed around working dogs. At The Gundog Club, your Boykin Spaniel won’t be one of a hundred dogs in a group pen with 100 tennis balls and no rules. Your Springer won’t be thrown into group play with untrained pets. And your Cocker won’t be left to pace in a kennel all day. Instead, they’ll be managed with care — by a team that understands what they’re bred for, and what they need to stay balanced, sharp, and happy.
