Meet The Trainer

William Atkinson is the founder of The Gundog Club. A graduate of Texas A&M University, he is a former commodities trader who traded in his seat for a shotgun and life out on the coastal prairie.

Today, he runs the club with the same focus and execution - providing a higher standard to Houston's gundogs and their families.

Our History

Deep in Brazoria County, along the west bank of the Brazos, The Gundog Club sits on acreage within the 1824 land grant of Dr. James Aeneas E. Phelps — one of Stephen F. Austin’s original "Old 300" colonists. Situated on historic coastal prairie, this land witnessed the birth of Texas and has demanded much from the people and animals who have called it home for over two centuries.

Today, we carry that heritage forward on the same soil. The dense river bottoms, heavy cover, and native prairie terrain provide the natural arena needed to work bird dogs. We built The Gundog Club to offer a higher standard, grounded in 200 years of Texas tradition and constructed specifically for dogs that are bred to work.
